“The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty; not knowing what comes next”
-Ursula K. LeGuin
Regardless of your political affiliation, religious beliefs, or income tax bracket, if there is one thing 2020 has shown us, it is that certainty is rarely certain. No person could have predicted the ramifications the COVID-19 virus would have on Oklahomans, and the rest of the population, over the past year. Equally as unpredictable, are the effects we will face from this virus over the coming weeks, months, and years.
These unpredictable times have brought with them financial and mental challenges that mercilessly test even the most resilient individuals. From business closures across the nation to travel restrictions for the foreseeable future, the way we go about our day-to-day lives has fundamentally changed. It is in times like these that people strive for some type of certainty. However, finding certainty in life can often be difficult, if not impossible. This sentiment was shared by Benjamin Franklin when he stated “…but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” While facing mortality can be challenging, it is one of the very few guarantees we are given in life. The pandemic has forced many of us to think about our own mortality and how our loved ones will be cared for once we are gone.
Each and every day is uncertain, however, a properly tailored estate plan can remove much of that uncertainty and will provide you and your loved ones with the peace of mind that your health care, assets and property are properly managed in accordance with your wishes. At Enos and Hans Attorneys, PLLC, we understand that every individual’s assets, relationships, and wishes are unique – and your estate plan should be no different. For these reasons our Attorneys work diligently to deliver innovative and unique solutions to best identify and meet their long-term goals.
In these times of unpredictability, Enos and Hans Attorneys, PLLC take pride in providing clients, and their loved ones, with the peace of mind that comes with a comprehensive and unique estate plan individually tailored to each client. A proper estate plan provides clear directions when it comes to an individual’s wishes, including, but not limited to:
- Ensuring that your assets are distributed to the people or parties of your choice upon your death
- Providing clear guidance regarding health care in the event you are unable to make such decisions due to incapacitation or disability
- Establishing a trust or trusts that distribute your assets to certain parties upon your death, and without the need for probate
- Initiating guardianship for any minor children
- Creating a power of attorney which, in certain situations, grants a party or parties to act on your behalf
We can all use less stress in our lives during these times. It is far better to create your estate plan years before you need it. Creation of an estate plan can ensure that your wishes are carried out once your day arrives. This will alleviate stress on both you and your loved ones. During the certainty of these uncertain times, we can all use less anxiety in our lives.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to discuss how an estate plan could benefit you and your loved ones.
